Short Term Rentals

The city is proposing to regulate Short Term Rentals. A short term rental is generally defined as a rental occurring in a residential unit (i.e. not a hotel/motel, etc) that lasts from one night to 184 nights. Examples of this would rental of a summer cottage for a week or two or using an on-line platform to rent your home for weekends or longer. It does not include a traditional “roommate” type of situation.

A proposal has been created and has been discussed by a City Council subcommittee, which has referred the matter to the Planning Department to continue refining the proposal. At some time in the future the proposal will be presented to the Planning Board for review and a public hearing. Notices of these meetings will be posted on the city website and this web page. The final approval will be done by the City Council as the proposal calls for additions to the Zoning Ordinance.
