                                            COVID-19’s Survivability in Water

The EPA recommends that Americans continue to use and drink tap water as usual. The presence of COVID-19 has not been detected in drinking water supplies and based on current evidence the risk to water suppliers is low. Conventional water treatment methods that use filtration and disinfection, as we do, should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19. At this time, there are no indications that COVID-19 is in the drinking water supply or will affect the reliable supply of water. Chapter 99 Ordinance

In 1955 the City of Laconia purchased the Laconia Water Company (Laconia Systems) and the Winni Water Company (Weirs System) and established the Water Department under Chapter 99 of the City of Laconia Public Ordinance.
This ordinance established a five member board to manage the department consisting of 3 citizens of Laconia, a member of the city council, and the public works director. The Board of Water Commissioners operate the department as an enterprise fund, relying not on tax dollars but rather on revenues generated from the sale of water.

Department Objective

The objective of the Water Department is to provide customers with inexpensive and reliable water while meeting all state and federal water quality requirements.
