  3. Spring Adult Book Discussion Series: Art Therapy, Reads "The Last Nude" By Ellis Avery

    February 5, 2019, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Aristotle said, "Art not only imitates nature, but also completes its deficiencies." Why do we use the arts to express passion, share our darkest secrets, or process traumatic events? In this series, we will explore how the written word, the expression of movement, and the language of music can reveal private truths and act as confession. "The Last Nude" by Ellis Avery Paris, 1927. One day in July, a young American named Rafaela Fano gets into the car of a coolly dazzling stranger, the Art Deco painter Tamara de Lempicka. Struggling to support herself, Rafaela agrees to model for the artist, a dispossessed Saint Petersburg aristocrat with a murky past. The two become lovers, and Rafaela inspires Tamara’s most iconic Jazz Age images. Discussion led by Prof. Inez McDermott. Copies are available at the front desk.
