Laconia Firefighters responded for a reported building fire at 724 White Oaks Road on Sunday October 20th, at around 6:20 pm. The fire engine from the Weirs Station arrived first to find a 1 1/2 story residential building at the end of an 800 foot long driveway with heavy fire on the first floor that was quickly extending to the upper floor. The Weirs fire crew began attacking the fire and a second alarm was requested for additional resources. Crews from Central Fire Station and mutual aid units arrived and the fire was knocked down. The cause was found to be improper disposal of ashes from a wood stove and the fire caused an estimated $125,000 in damage. Gilford, Belmont, Meredith, Holderness, and Franklin fire departments, and the Laconia Police Department assisted at the fire scene. Meredith, Center Harbor, and Belmont fire departments, as well as Meredith EMS, covered the Laconia and Weirs stations.
